Things have finally come to a head on General Hospital as Sonny killed Agent Cates for using his daughter Kristina to get to him. Despite the fact that Sonny is in his right mind, he didn’t seem to have Jason and his men assist him in preparing to get rid of Cates’ body. But help may come in a form he would never have expected.
Under the cover of a thunderstorm, Sonny (Maurice Benard) finally did the right thing when he shot Cates (Adam J. Harrington), then gave him a double tap, ensuring that he was really and truly dead. But as far as we saw in the August 30 episode, he only called Diane, instructing her to standby before confronting his nemesis at the Quartermaine estate. He didn’t seem to have a plan in place to get rid of the body and the evidence.
However, around the same time, Kristina (Kate Mansi) left her mother’s house, grabbed a gun from Sonny’s place, and hopped into her car. Odds are, she’s headed to the Q’s to finish off Cates herself because the dastardly FBI agent was trying to send her up the river on trumped-up charges — via a coerced and false confession from Ava (Maura West) claiming that Kristina attacked her. But when she arrives, she may find Sonny standing in the rain over Cates’ body.
It’s been speculated before that Kristina may eventually be the one to take over Sonny’s organization. Even though she was horrified when she witnessed him beating the snot out of Dex (Evan Hofer), she regained her composure and accepted her dad for the mobster that he is. She may help Sonny get rid of Cates’ corpse, although simply tossing him into the koi pond would be a bad idea as it’ll be found, and Port Charles needs Sonny to continue to protect it.
With her help, they could take the body to the Pine Barrens and bury it with all of the other evildoers that Sonny’s dispatched over the years. Seeing the two work together like that would make us cheer and hopeful that she’ll get deeper into the mob even though Sonny has never wanted his children to follow in his footsteps. We’re now on the edge of our seats as this story unfolds, and it’ll be unique in the soap opera landscape to have a father-and-daughter mafia team-up that fans will cheer for.
