It’s not uncommon for the people of Port Charles to mention characters who are no longer on General Hospital. Sonny and Jagger have been talking about Karen nonstop since Agent Cates returned to town. But in the March 7, 2024 episode, a GH legend mentioned two completely unexpected characters.
Characters In Question
While consoling her grandson Rocco (Finn Francis Carr) — whose dad Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) had just been shot — Laura (Genie Francis) decided to try bonding with the teen over the last thing he expected — video games. Laura assured him she was an expert at Super Mario Bros. thanks to two GH teens who came before him.
“Your Uncle Lucky and his cousin Sly used to play it all the time when they were growing up,” Laura admitted before explaining how she became addicted to the game herself. But the mention of Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and Sly (Glenn Walker Harris Jr.) came completely out of left field and caused long-time GH viewers to do a double-take.
Who Is Sly?
While it’s not so unheard of for Laura to mention her son Lucky, hearing her speak the name Sly certainly added a twist to her story. In 1991, Sly Eckert — the son of the late Bill Eckert, Luke’s (Tony Geary) look-alike cousin — came to Port Charles and quickly befriended his cousin Lucky once he arrived in 1993.
The two teen boys hit it off at the movies before trouble arose and Lucky found himself face-to-face with a man who looked exactly like his father. When Frank Smith’s hitman fired shots at them, mistaking Bill for Luke, Bill got shot while protecting the boys and wound up dead from his wounds.
Sly = Stone?
Was Laura mentioning Sly GH’s subtle way of putting that character back into viewers’ brains before it’s revealed he is the Stone that’s been after Sonny and the rest of the Port Charles mob? After all, his father was wrongfully killed by the mob when he was just a boy, giving him the perfect excuse to have grown up with a craving for revenge. Much like Dante, bringing this story full circle.
