When Kristina fell out of the window on General Hospital, she lost Molly and TJ’s baby. While she is grieving, so are Molly and TJ. Soap Hub recently talked with Tajh Bellow, and he gave us insight into how TJ is handling the tremendous loss.
Devastating Grief
“TJ is obviously devastated because losing this baby is truly losing the version of life that he fell in love with and that he began plans for. Losing his child is also losing the life that he was living and the life that he planned to continue living,” Bellow revealed. “It’s emotionally devastating.”
He hopes their shared grieving will pull TJ and Molly (Kristen Vaganos) together, but it’s unclear if that will happen. “I do think in grief, we should definitely pull together. But there is no right or wrong way to grieve,” Bellow said.
Of course, Molly is throwing herself into work right now to avoid feeling all her feelings about losing the baby. The actor feels it could cause an issue for them. “Once she’s finished and not distracting herself, she’s going to realize that that pain is still there and that life that we both planned and dreamed of together is now indeed gone.” Ultimately, Molly will have to deal with her grief, and until she does, it’s going to be difficult for their relationship.
Sister Act
Molly and TJ disagreed about Molly’s sister, Kristina (Kate Mansi — who recently got some help), serving as their surrogate. Now, though, he and Molly are on the same side in their feelings about Kristina. That disagreement has “taken a huge toll on our partnership,” Bellow said. “Because TJ can’t actually fully live in his opinion of what’s happening, because if he commits too much to express that, then he’s aware that he’s pushing Molly further from him…it’s definitely put up lots of walls between them.”
Bellow worries that the whole situation could pull TJ and Molly apart. “Well, I certainly hope they can pull together, but in any relationship, if this were to continue and neither party felt supported, I can’t imagine that they remain stable.”
The GH preview for this week shows it hurts Kristina when she learns that Molly and TJ named the baby without her. Bellow revealed that the naming happened organically. “TJ is prioritizing the closure…. I would say that [the name] is a decision that’s inspired. Then once we see it, we name [the baby]. It’s done in that instant. It wasn’t premeditated. It just came about organically, and it wasn’t against Kristina.”
While some fans felt TJ was controlling of Kristina, Bellow pointed out that he didn’t have the type of partnership with Kristina that he had with Molly, the actual mother of his child. “TJ was never viewing [Kristina] as an incubator,” he said. “Kristina is not TJ’s partner. So, that love that you naturally have when you co-create something, the protection would feel like a collaborative effort between TJ and his partner if they’re sharing this life that they’re making together. Because TJ had no influence or shared love with [Kristina], it’s going to seem controlling. Otherwise, we would agree on these things together as partners.”
Hope for the Future
Not all hope is lost for TJ and Molly’s relationship, though. TJ’s religion is important to him, and Bellow said that Molly coming together with TJ at the funeral later this week helps. “Because we were able to come together on a funeral, that really covered a lot of religious differences for him. So the way Molly shows up there and gives space for TJ’s beliefs, I think that goes a long way.”
For the time being, Bellow doesn’t see TJ and Molly trying to have another child. “The potential relationship issues from the aftermath of the loss of our child…that’s going to take the stage. I do not see them” trying again anytime soon. In the future, the actor would like to see TJ “find a new sense of self and new sense of purpose in Port Charles.”
For now, stay tuned to see how TJ and Molly navigate the aftermath of Kristina losing their baby. It’s sure to be a heartbreaking storyline that will have fans watching as it plays out onscreen.
