When Maurice Benard sat down with General Hospital co-star Tabyana Ali on the latest episode of State of Mind, the actress delved into her character’s status on the show and the beloved supercouple “Sprina.”

Trina Time

“What’s up with Trina, or whatever the frick’s going on?” Benard asked Trina’s portrayer, who admitted she wishes she knew. “You’re just in limbo then?” he asked her.

“I’m kind of in the gray zone at the moment,” Ali revealed. “I think I’m just kind of observing everybody else’s trials and tribulations,” she continued. “And I’m in a, I guess, process of coming out of my grieving. You know, your soulmate dies, you ain’t going to get over that tomorrow.”

Trina was once the center of a pivotal storyline during her relationship with Spencer (ex-Nicholas Alexander Chavez), who gained a cult following and were even dubbed the next Luke and Laura. The couple even had a similar separation as Spencer is presumed dead after following off a boat, while Laura was presumed dead after disappearing off a pier in 1982.

As of late, Trina has only been seen in addition to others’ storylines, like Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Dex’s (Evan Hofer) relationship, Gio’s (Giovanni Mazza) musical talent, and Portia’s (Brook Kerr) animosity toward Heather (Alley Mills). Ali and Benard even noted the last scene they shot together involved Trina simply picking up a folder he needed to give to Ava (Maura West).

Justice For Sprina

“You guys were huge,” Benard noted about the Spencer and Trina pairing known as “Sprina.” The two went on to share their congrats for Chavez’s skyrocketing career, currently starring in two Ryan Murphy series simultaneously.

“Maybe he can come back as the killer,” Benard joked, referencing the character Chavez plays in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix. “And then he comes to you and you figure out he’s the killer,” the actor went on.

“At first, how I really wanted this to go down, is that I become a killer,” Ali admitted about her character. “I’m like, ‘I’m so pissed off at the world that now I’m going to go ahead and wreak havoc.”
