The Special Meaning Behind Sonny’s Safe Combination On General Hospital

After Sonny opened his gun safe on the September 6, 2024 episode of General Hospital, eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed the significance of the mobster’s number combination.

As John’s (Adam Harrington, who said goodbye to GH) death continues to rock Port Charles, Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) gun safe has been the center of attention, with Kristina (Kate Mansi) stealing one of her dad’s guns and the PCPD arriving to search Sonny’s weapons. After Dex (Evan Hofer), having just graduated from the police academy and becoming the PCPD’s newest cop, smugly told Anna (Finola Hughes) he knew where his former boss kept his gun safe, he brought it out to be searched.

Despite having previously noticed there was a gun missing, Sonny cooperated with the cops and typed in his combination before the secret of the missing gun was revealed. But the number combination he typed in was anything but random.

A Special Date

As the scene zooms in on Sonny pressing each number, viewers can watch as he types in 030163, which translates to 03-01-63, the birthday of Sonny’s portrayer himself. Benard was born on March 1, 1963, exactly one month before GH’s April 1, 1963 debut.

This isn’t the first time GH has tossed a numeric Easter egg into the show. Most recently, Nikolas’ (Adam Huss, who had a special message for GH fans) inmate number was revealed to be the same as the prison identification number of a character from Les Miserables.
