All My Children, Days of Our Lives, As the World Turns, and Guiding Light alum Daniel Cosgrove is returning to soaps. He’s joining General Hospital, where he’ll play a politician, mixing it up with Congressman Drew Quartermaine.

Get Ready to Meet Ezra Boyle

TV Insider was the first to report the news. Cosgrove is set to play Ezra Boyle, a “consummate politician,” which means he’ll be clocking face-time with Drew, who desperately needs friends and allies.

“At first, he seems to be aligning with Drew Quartermaine, and there’s some shenanigans going on,” Cosgrove told TV Insider. “But the character is kind of mixing it up with a lot of the cast.” In addition to Drew, he’ll chat it up with Mayor Collins (Genie Francis) and the Quartermaines. “To just kind of creating a little bit of a thorn in the side to some of the good folk of Port Charles,” Cosgrove continued.

When describing his character, the Beverly Hills 90210 actor uses words like “a little arrogant” and “full of himself,” all traits he says have been fun to play so far. This must be the possible ally that the teasers allude to, which means the daytime and primetime actor will make his big debut on Friday, March 21.

Since Cosgrove is based on the East Coast, taking on this political role for GH means he’ll be commuting to the West Coast. But he is happy to do it. “There’s just so much gratitude for the opportunity to do this,” he said. “This is what I’m best at. When I’m on a set, I love it.”

Cosgrove’s Soap Past

Cosgrove’s last soap role was DAYS’ Aiden Jennings, who turned out to be a very bad guy and had a relationship with Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) that turned disastrous. He played Jennings from 2014-2016. He also had a short stint on As the World Turns, where he played Chris Hughes during the show’s final year on the air.

But the two daytime roles he’s most known for are Guiding Light, where he played the son of larger-than-life Billy Lewis, and All My Children‘s Scott Chandler. He talked about reuniting on GH with fellow AMC alum Cameron Mathison. “I started All My Children in October ’96, and I believe Cameron started sometime in early ’97,” the soap vet stated. “We were in one of these foursome storylines for a little bit in the beginning, and that was a blast.” However, the two actors haven’t crossed paths since then.

In other news, the Connecticut native is about to appear in an episode of the upcoming Apple TV+ series starring Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm, called Your Friends & Neighbors, which debuts on April 11, 2025.

But it’s time to welcome Cosgrove back to daytime! Again, his GH debut as Ezra Boyle happens on Friday, March 21, on ABC/Hulu.
