Soap Opera Veteran Roger Howarth Celebrates His Birthday

Ever since Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt came out of the woods, fans have been wondering what he was really after — and frankly, the answer isn’t any more clear today than it was when he first arrived. What’s not in question are the kudos earned by Austin’s portrayer, Roger Howarth, who has a lot to celebrate.

Happy Birthday, Roger Howarth

And that’s because he was born on September 13, 1968, which means that this talented, fan-favorite actor is turning 55 years old today! Howarth made his stage debut at the age of 7, and he continued to pursue his love of performing well into his high school years.

However, he initially resisted acting as a profession. However, after spending a semester studying political science at George Washington University, Howarth dropped out and enrolled in an intense acting program at the Eugene O’Neil Theatre Center in Connecticut.

Afterward, he obtained work on the CBS daytime drama Guiding Light. Then, he entered a nationwide talent search and won a role on Loving, a competing soap on the ABC network.

Howarth’s work as Kent Winslow netted him the part of One Life to Live’s Todd Manning. Though initially a day player, Howarth was eventually signed to a full-time contract, and he remained at the soap (off-and-on) from 1992 to 2003.

Between 2003 and 2010, Howarth played legacy character Paul Ryan on As the World Turns. After that, he returned to One Life to Live and reprised the Todd Manning part.

When OLTL was canceled, Howarth was hired to play Todd on sister soap General Hospital. After one year, a lawsuit forced Howarth to momentarily decamp from the show only to return as a new character: Franco Baldwin. Franco was tragically murdered, and lo and behold, a couple of months later, Howarth was back in yet another role — Austin.

Outside of daytime dramas, Howarth is known for his work on series such as Diagnosis: Murder, Dawson’s Creek, Prey, and The Flash, as well as feature films like Dream of Live and Destruction Los Angeles.

The handsome star has been married to actress Cari Stahler since 1992. Together, the couple has two children: Julian (a son born in July 1992) and Langston (a daughter born in April 2002).

Soap Hub would like to wish Roger Howarth a very happy birthday and many more.
