General Hospital’s Sawandi Wilson Reveals Secret Superpower On SOM

Sawandi Wilson sat down with one of his General Hospital co-stars and revealed a secret superpower many may not know he has.

Gimme A Break

Maurice Benard’s (Sonny) State of Mind often begins with an indepth conversation about his guest’s childhood and upbringing. But when Wilson (Isaiah, who’s been romancing another Port Charles resident) joined him for his latest episode, Benard had one burning question. “First and foremost, I want to talk about your breakdancing,” he said before asking when and how it started.

The actor immediately laughed at the question before delving into his dancing past. “Breakdancing started in a basement in Long Island,” he began, noting he was watching Video Music Box when a Run DMC music video came on. “I’m just like, seeing these people have linoleum floor just laid out, just two sides.”

After wondering if the people in the video were about to start fighting, Wilson noticed as one man began breakdancing. “He starts doing what’s called floats, he starts spinning around, and in my Marvel Cinematic Universe little mind – teenager, like I love Hulk and Iron Man and all that – it was like seeing people manifest superpowers.”

Breakout Breakdancer

After a 16-year-old Wilson realized he wanted to learn to breakdance, he entered into self-teaching by watching how-to VHS videos and going on breakdance.com.

“The whole idea with dance was me trying to find a way where I was more comfortable in my own skin; express myself. And that’s what it was always about, and that’s what it’s still about,” Wilson shared.

After revealing he traveled the world both teaching and competing in breakdance, he booked a role in the 2013 film Battle of the Year 3D. “It was the breakout experience for me as a beat boy. It was my first time I could say, ‘I’m an actor. And I’m acting in this film, and I’m also dancing in this film. It was a dream come true.”
