Robyn Bernard, who played Terry Brock, Bobbie Spencer’s stepdaughter on General Hospital in the 1980s has died. She was 64.
In Memoriam: Robyn Bernard
TMZ broke the news that Bernard, who joined GH in 1984, has died. The country coroner’s office in Riverside, Calif. told the news magazine online outlet that Benard’s body was identified using fingerprints after deputies responded to a death investigation call in the town of San Jacinto, Calif. on March 12. The actress’s body was found in the early morning that day.
No cause of death has been announced. An autopsy was scheduled for today, Wednesday, but it may take several weeks for the results to come in.
Born in Gladewater, Texas, Bernard enrolled in Baylor University at the age of 17. She started out studying journalism, but her true passion was singing and acting. A devotee of GH while living in Nashville, Bernard moved to Los Angeles, took acting classes, and soon landed a job on her favorite TV show.
Bobbie Spencer’s (Jacklyn Zeman) marriage to DL Brock (David Groh, perhaps best known as Valerie Harper’s TV husband Joe on Rhoda) was a disaster as he turned out to be a violent spousal abuser but Bobbie and Terry formed a strong friendship as they tried to escape DL’s clutches.
Terry was also a key player in the Laurelton mystery. She married Kevin O’Connor (Kevin Bernhardt) unaware that he was a violent killer. Terry was framed for the murders of Sherriff Broder and Ted Holmes (David Doyle AKA Bosley on Charlie’s Angels) by Sarah Simon, who blamed Terry for Earl’s death even though Kevin was the person responsible. Terry ended up killing Kevin in self-defense.
After a failed romance with Kevin’s brother Patrick (Guy Mack), Terry moved on to a relationship with Dusty Walker (Shaun Cassidy). After getting a recording contract, Terry left Port Charles in 1990. Bernard’s other credits included The Facts of Life, Simon & Simon, and Tour of Duty.
While GH often dips into the history vault to tell today’s stories, Terry was seldom, if ever, mentioned after she moved away. However, Bernard attended a GH Past Cast event in August 2014. Her last acting credit was the role of a psychologist in Voices from the High School in 2002. Benard’s sister is actress Crystal Benard of the long-running sitcom Wings.
Soap Hub sends sincere condolences to Benard’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.
