The clock is ticking for Ava Jerome’s trial on General Hospital. Kristina is determined to have Ava prosecuted for the death of her baby. While Ric Lansing is set on proving Ava’s innocence. He truly believes it was an accident that caused Kristina to fall out of a hotel window. Now, he wants to prove it to his daughter, Kristina’s sister, Molly. Rick Hearst recently discussed Ric’s approach to the divisive matter.

Ruthlessness Is Key to Winning

“He’ll be as ruthless as he needs to be,” Hearst told Soap Opera Digest of Ric as he defends his client. Hearst explained that he took the part very seriously, working hard on memorizing his lengthy dialogue. He detailed the fact that Molly (Kristen Vaganos) originally blamed Kristina (Kate Mansi) for going to Ava’s hotel room in the first place, causing a chain reaction that led to the death of the baby that Kristina was carrying for her sister.

But now, Molly blames Ava and seems determined to exact vengeance on her. “Ultimately, the end game is to get Molly to see that she can’t continue to harbor this anger,” he stated, continuing, “this vengeance that will continue to grow inside of her.” According to Hearst, Ric’s goal is to prove to everyone that it was an accident so they can get on with their lives.

Credibility is Also Important

Hearst further explained that it was important for his character to believe in his heart of hearts that Ava is innocent. Otherwise, his credibility would be nil. He explained, “If that core element wasn’t there, I don’t think genuinely and honestly he could even have a leg to stand on.” He felt that the story’s writing was strong, excellently making Ric’s motivation believable.

The actor stressed how he approached the court scenes carefully and didn’t rush things. This way, Ric’s arguments were clear and believable. “I wanted to be so on point and I wanted Ric’s arguments to be so clear and to be really driving him,” Hearst stated. This story has become a nail-biter because it seems that the case could go either way. And whatever the result, it will have implications for Port Charles for a long time.
