It’s been more than a quarter of a century since General Hospital fans have seen Rena Sofer in Port Charles as fan favorite Lois Cerullo, but that long drought is about to end. Sofer, who was most recently seen as Quinn on Bold and the Beautiful, is set to return to the soap in October.
When Sofer first appeared on GH, she found a singer named Eddie Maine (Wally Kurth) performing in an Upstate New York bar and quickly took him on as a client. Eddie and Lois fell in love and married, but things went haywire when Lois learned that Eddie was really Ned Ashton (now Quartermaine) and married to Katherine Bell (Mary Beth Evans). Eventually, Ned and Lois wed in a big on-location wedding in Brooklyn, NY, and Lois gave birth to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) before she and Ned divorced.
Flash forward more than two decades, and Ned now thinks he really is Eddie Maine and doesn’t remember ever being Ned. Since Ned woke as “Neddie,” fans have speculated and hoped that Sofer would return for this story, as Lois seems to be the missing element.
In fact, speculation on Sofer and Lois’s return began earlier this year when Sofer left B&B after playing Quinn Fuller for 10 years. Sofer had even mentioned in an interview that she’d be open to a GH return.
According to PEOPLE, who broke the news, there is no word yet on how long Sofer’s stint on GH will be, so time will tell whether Lois just pays a visit to her ex-husband and daughter to wrap up the Eddie Maine story or whether this return will be long-term. Either way, Lois is sure to shake up Port Charles again in a big way — and give Ned’s current wife Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) a run for her money.
