As we enter Election Day 2024, let’s take a look back at a special episode of General Hospital that took us back to 1920 and focused on women’s right to vote.
The 2020 stand-alone episode titled “Vote” aired on November 2, 2020, Election Day of that year. The episode also coincided with the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.
While the episode opened in present-day 2020 on Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) 18th birthday. She’s encouraged by Carly (Laura Wright) and Bobbie (ex-Jackie Zeman) to exercise her right to vote after she remarked that her one vote won’t make a difference.
When Joss showed up at the gallery, where Trina (then-Sydney Mikayla) was helping set up a display for the women’s suffragist movement, and the two explored inside and old voting booth on display. When they pulled a lever just as Lucy (Lynn Herring) lit an oddly-familiar candle, the girls were transported back in time to 1920 when their ancestors fought for their right to vote.

In a Back to the Future-style episode, Joss and Trina meet their ancestors and former Port Charles citizens, who endure voter suppression while trying to vote for the next president.
The women of GH portrayed a new cast of characters for the episode, with Wright as Bobbie’s great-great-grandmother Beatrice Eckert and Brook Kerr as Dr. Priscilla Johnson, who help the girls see the significance of having the right to vote in the year 2020.
Several other GH stars took on new roles for the episode, including Nancy Lee Grahn as Lexy, Maura West as Ada, Leslie Charleson (whose GH status was recently revealed) as Mary, Finola Hughes as Alice, Rebecca Herbst as Eliza, Cassandra James as Tillie, and Kathleen Gati as Ms. Oberle (a play on Obrecht). Former GH stars Kelly Thiebaud and Brianna Henry also appeared in the episode.
The candle Lucy lit that sent the girls back in time is known as the “time” candle, a callback to the one featured in GH’s 1997 spin-off Port Charles.
