With Heather being released from prison, the time is right for her son Steven to return on General Hospital. A beloved and missed fan-favorite, Scott Reeves opened up about reprising the role. He explained what he emotionally experienced when returning to the show that was his home for four years.
Scott Reeves (Steven) eagerly explained to Soap Opera Digest what going back to GH was like. Steven ended up going to jail in 2013 after a past misdeed involving illegally harvesting a prisoner’s organ to save another life caught up with him. He kept in touch with executive producer Frank Valentini, and amongst their texts, he would often ask if Steve had been paroled yet. Finally, the call came in, and Valentini answered his long-burning question. Reeves explained, “And now he was telling me, ‘Steve’s gotten out of jail, he’s been released on parole,’ and when he told me the storyline idea, I couldn’t have been more excited.” (Find out about Ric’s scheme to free Heather.)
Reeves showed up at the studio as soon as he could, and nostalgic emotions flooded back to him. Before entering the building, he bumped into his old friend and castmate Rick Hearst, who plays attorney Ric Lansing. Ric played a key role in getting Steve’s mom, Heather (Alley Mills), released from jail. In the studio, Reeves was “welcomed by people that I’d known for years and worked with over a decade ago.”

Reeves found his return to be “bittersweet” because of the changes in the years since he’d been there, as well as friends who had passed away. He mentioned some of those people, including “Donna [Messina, who was the head of GH’s makeup department and passed away in 2018], who did my makeup, and Nneka [Garland, a GH producer who passed away in 2023], and Sonya Eddy [ex-Epiphany, who passed away in 2022].” He noted that Eddy seemed like she would always be there and expressed his love for her.
On the happy side, Reeves enthusiastically reunited with old friends and co-workers. “It was literally like a family reunion, like coming home. It felt like a place that I felt anchored in and felt really comfortable in.” He swore that he would cherish his memories of his time on GH and with the staff. And he would continue to do so moving forward, “Because you never know when you’re not going to be able to see someone again.”
