On the April 7, 2025 episode of State Of Mind, Maurice Benard caught up with his co-star Réal Andrews, who broke his silence on where his General Hospital character has been.
Taggert hasn’t been seen in Port Charles since last summer when he drowned his sorrows after learning Trina (Tabyana Ali) isn’t actually his daughter. “He’s on one hell of a bender,” Andrews joked.
“If that was the last time that Taggert was to be [on],” Andrews continued about his latest scenes on GH, “what a way to go out.” When Benard went on to say he thinks Andrews is going to win a Daytime Emmy (and so does Soap Hub!), Andrews told him he’s speaking it into existence, saying, “This is what I f—ing fought for my whole life.”
The Emmy talk opened up a larger conversation for the two about ego. “It’s not about being cocky, it’s about being confident,” Andrews said. “I’m not going to be that actor that says, ‘Wow, I’m so shocked, I never thought this would happen.'”
Benard countered that there’s nothing wrong with having confidence, but it’s easy to get in trouble with your ego. “It screws with you,” he admitted of not winning. Benard revealed the 2023 Daytime Emmys was the greatest time he’s had at any Emmys despite not winning. “I was not in my head… in my thoughts… I was in the moment.”
