The legendary Quincy Jones died at 91 years old. The music producer worked with greats like Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson. He also had a soap opera connection. A song he produced aired on an episode of General Hospital.

People reported that Jones died on Sunday, November 3, at his home in Los Angeles. His family surrounded him as he passed. In a statement, his family said, “Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.
“He is truly one of a kind and we will miss him dearly; we take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created,” the statement continued. “Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’ heart will beat for eternity.”
Jones is survived by his children, Rashida Jones, Kidada Jones, Kenya Kinski-Jones, Quincy Jones III, Jolie Jones Levine, Martina Jones, and Rachel Jones. He is also survived by grandchildren Isaiah Jones Koenig, Quincy Renzo Delight Jones IV, and Nea Jones.
Jones enjoyed an immensely successful career as a producer after beginning as a trumpet player in jazz bands for Lionel Hampton and Dizzy Gillespie. He produced in collaboration with Michael Jackson on 1979’s Off the Wall, 1982’s Thriller and 1987’s Bad. Additionally, Jones wrote the score for The Color Purple and the theme music for television shows Sanford and Son and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. These were just a few of his many successes.
Jones is the second most Grammy-awarded artist of all time, winning 28 times. He was nominated a record 80 times since 1961.
Soap Connection
GH fans may remember when Patti Austin and James Ingram’s hit “Baby, Come to Me” aired on the soap. Jones produced that duet. BET reported the song was rereleased and spent two weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 after airing on the soap. It was used as Luke (Anthony Geary) and Holly’s (Emma Samms) love theme.
