Nicholas Alexander Chavez Hasn’t Closed The Door On General Hospital…Yet

September was a banner month for General Hospital alum Nicholas Alexander Chavez. He debuted in two Ryan Murphy series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Grotesquerie. He also made the rounds on the press circuit, answering questions about his future, his present, and, for our intents and purposes, his past.

That is the Question

Currently, Chavez is focused on his career post-GH. He’s getting good reviews for his performance on Netflix’s Monsters, which had a monster first week with 2.7 billion minutes watched. In fact, TV Line recently named him Performer of the Week for his role as Lyle Menendez. The kudos used words to describe his performance like “Impressive,” “star-making,” and “enviable mastery of his craft.”

When Chavez talked to TV Line, he answered a question GH fans have been thinking about. The outlet wanted to know whether he’d return to the daytime soap where he won a Daytime Emmy for playing Spencer Cassadine. After all, his family, friends, and Trina, his girlfriend, are all under the impression that he’s dead.

While Spencer met his so-called demise at sea, the door was always open for him to return. But after several months and a quick jump from telling the Menendez brothers’ story to another Ryan Murphy vehicle called Grotesquerie, it became apparent that his return wasn’t in the cards anytime soon. Many fans now wonder when the show will recast the role.

Somewhat surprisingly, the actor hasn’t completely closed the door on GH, which gave him his big break. “Port Charles is a crazy place,” Chavez explained. “We’ll have to see what happens.

However, he’d understand if the powers that be at GH want to recast. “Of course. I understand that the show has needs.” So, should they recast Spencer, he’d approve of their decision. “I would be fully supportive of that,” he said.

On GH, Trina (Tabyana Ali) has continued to grieve for her boyfriend, but she’s now making inroads toward coming out of the grief cocoon she’s been in ever since she lost Spencer. She has dedicated herself to working hard at Ava’s (Maura West) gallery. And thanks to Stella (Vernee Watson), she’s going back to school.

With GH either recasting or bringing back characters like Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), Lulu (Alexa Havins), Holly (Emma Samms), and Lucas (Van Hansis), is this the time to recast Spencer, or will viewers need to remain patient?
