If Willow and Drew’s unintentional kiss on General Hospital escalates into something more, Michael and Nina will be left out in the cold. They are already forced to try to get along, and if they continue working together, they could definitely be headed for an affair.
Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) went from hating each other to secretly having hate sex to learning that they can help each other in various work capacities if they simply shed their animosity and learned to get along. Drew has decided to run for Congress, leaving his business, Aurora Media, in need of someone to take charge, and that person is Michael (Chad Duell).
However, Michael also hates Nina with a passion, but has held his anger back because his wife Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) has been mending fences with her estranged mom. Drew basically sat down with Michael and Nina and asked that they also figure out how to get along because Aurora also owns her magazine, Crimson. (Find out why Michael and Nina don’t get along.)
Through gritted teeth, Michael agreed. But he has no idea that Willow and Drew shared a kiss on the 4th of July. Willow’s been quaking in her boots because she could lose her husband if the truth came out. The kiss was impromptu, and it’s not as if Willow has been fantasizing about her husband’s uncle (ick factor five), but it happened.
Rather than going through the whole soap opera trope of Michael finding out, getting angry, and splitting up with Willow only to have them eventually get back together, they could just get even. Michael and Nina could share a kiss and then everyone could wash their hands of the situation and proceed as usual with no messy divorce. But that’s only a temporary fix.
Even though Willow and Drew discussed that the kiss was a mistake and would never happen again, you know something will force them together somehow. If they start to begin something of an affair, a simple revenge kiss doesn’t solve the problem. If they got everything out in the open, the obvious soap opera solution would be for Michael and Nina to have their own affair.
But affairs get messy, and everyone ends up unhappy. There’s a far simpler yet more radical solution to the dilemma: Willow and Michael could get super progressive and swap partners, not for life or romance, just for rolls in the hay. (Come to think of it, many soap opera couples’ problems of infidelity could be solved using this method.)
If Michael gave Willow permission to be with Drew, and she, in turn, gave him permission to be with Nina, with the stipulation being that there would be no romance, they could resolve the issue in a way that’s never been done before on a soap. Sadly, that’s probably not going to happen, so option two is for Michael and Nina to simply hook up.
If they do, it’ll be messy and awkward (especially considering she was married to his father previously), and everybody will be whining about what will happen to Michael and Willow’s young kids. While a romance between Michael and Nina seems downright absurd, forces could push them together, but with her being Willow’s mother, it would be more of an ick factor of 10. But stranger things have happened in daytime dramas.
