General Hospital’s Maurice Benard Teases Big Payoff Coming For Sonny

Sonny may be headed for disaster on General Hospital. Ava tampered with his meds and caused his daughter, Kristina, to lose her baby, so he’s justifiably angry. But not knowing that he’s taking placebos, Sonny could completely lose control after this tragedy, and Maurice Benard teased about what’s to come.

He Applauded Everyone That Works On GH

On the August 5 GH episode, after Kristina (Kate Mansi) lost her baby and her dad, Sonny, wanted to see her, her sister Molly (Kristen Vaganos) refused to let him in and read him the riot act, blaming him for the baby’s death. Sonny sadly left with his head down and went off to recall all the recent times when friends and family told him he was a criminal and a lousy human being.

Whether or not he finally snaps because his bipolar medication has been tampered with is a concept for another time. Still, Benard commented about the episode and was very happy with the final result that aired. (Check out some other great GH tragedies.)

On August 6, he posted a screenshot on Instagram of Sonny leaving after Molly tore him a new one, captioning it, “There was a lot of discussion about yesterday’s show. First, let me say I watched it and everybody at @generalhospitalabc should be very, very proud. Producing, directing, writing, acting…Sometimes we take things for granted. I know everybody works really hard, yesterday’s show reminds me why we work hard. And I can tell you, I know cause I remember it vividly there’s a lot more to come.” Thinking of the fans, he added, “P.S. Everything is great. I am doing incredibly well.” 

One fan posted a nice response, stating, “I feel like I’m in a constant state of heartbreak for Sonny, but it always makes me feel better to know the man behind him is doing ok. Stay well ❤️.”

Climax To Sonny’s Story Is Coming

Benard posted an episode of his show, State of Mind, that didn’t have a guest, just him answering fan questions. One commented that they wished for Sonny to realize his bipolar medication had been tampered with. Benard thought carefully about it and answered, “This is a long storyline to be off of medication. But, I gotta tell ya, the payoff coming up…” He hesitated for a moment, noting, “I can’t tell you, ’cause I’ll get REALLY in trouble,” then jokingly muttered, “No, I won’t, ’cause I’m Sonny.”

Reiterating that he probably would get in trouble for giving too much away, he carefully continued, stating, “What happens in the payoff is absolutely incredible. And I know it is because I was there (he chuckled).” He continued by clarifying his statement with, “But that doesn’t necessarily mean it was great. So many people have come up to me that have seen the scenes and keep telling me, ‘Oh wait till you see this. Wait till you see that.’” Then, deftly avoiding spoilers he finished with, “So…hang in there.”

We’ll definitely be waiting with bated breath to see what happens to Sonny!
