Maurice Benard Reveals How General Hospital Co-Star Finn Carr ‘Broke His Heart’

During the most recent episode of his podcast, Maurice Benard sat down with General Hospital co-star Finn Carr and revealed how the young actor recently ‘broke his heart.’

The Heartbreak Kid

On the January 26, 2025 episode of State of Mind, Benard (Sonny) was joined by Carr, who is known for playing his GH grandson Rocco. “I just want to say that I love young actors — I’ve helped quite a bit,” Benard began his introduction of his co-star. “And I haven’t helped in a while because I just haven’t found anyone who I kind of like, and this person I’ve got today, I kind of like.”

When the pair discussed Carr’s recent work on GH, Benard noted, “I think, in all honesty, everybody was great in that storyline,” referring to Sam’s (ex-Kelly Monaco) death (find out who was behind it after all!). “You broke my heart,” he admitted. “In one scene, I was like, ‘Oh, s–t, this kid broke my heart just now.'”

“Knowing that it broke your heart, I think I probably did a good job,” Carr said when Benard asked how he felt filming the scenes where Rocco learns that Sam died. “It was hard to kind of play…because I’ve only really done, like, comedy stuff before this.”

Destined for Daytime

“It’s a really different experience on this show than all the other shows I’ve been on,” Carr admitted. “For this, you have to be ready to perform, and there’s not a lot of time to get into it.”

Benard had a very good piece of advice for the daytime drama newbie. “The thing about soap operas, it’s very simple: if you’re not 200 percent prepared, you’re cooked.”
