When there’s a death in the General Hospital cast and crew, Maurice Benard will typically address the loss on his State of Mind podcast. Nearly a month after Johnny Wactor’s murder, Benard spoke about his late co-star at the start of his recent episode.
Standing outside, Benard spoke directly to the camera when he admitted he didn’t take the decision to re-air Wactor’s episode lightly. “I was debating on whether to put up Johnny Wactor’s State of Mind… repost it… but as I watched it, there’s no way I couldn’t put it up.”
“We had such an incredible conversation,” Benard remembered about the 2021 episode. “He was such an honorable guy.”
Benard noted another reason he decided he needed to repost the episode after watching it back. “This was a long time ago, when I first started State of Mind, and we couldn’t get the lighting right.”
“I said, ‘But the lighting’s so bad.’ He says, ‘Nah, it doesn’t matter. It’s what we said,'” he recalled about Wactor before revealing something truly mystifying. “And as I watched it again, my lighting is not good… he has a light around him… like a halo.”
Benard went on to say he believes it was meant to be for Wactor to be on his show and have that “halo.” The actor previously paid tribute to Wactor in an Instagram post, sharing a still from a GH scene of Sonny and Brando.
This comes after Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson also re-aired a previous podcast episode with Wactor, while several GH stars joined a rally on June 12, 2024 for justice for the actor.
