Maurice Benard and Finola Hughes Bring GH Star Power To NYC

General Hospital is celebrating its 60th anniversary, and mainstream media is taking notice — so much so, they’ve asked Maurice Benard and Finola Hughes to represent the show. The two made the rounds of various talk shows, even flying to New York to appear on them, which, as some fans know — isn’t easy for at least one of the actors.

Maurice Benard Fights His Fear

If you’re a big fan of Benard, who has played mob kingpin Sonny Corinthos for half of the 60 years GH has aired on ABC, then you may already know he is not fond of flying. But he happily shared some news with his followers on Instagram when he said, “This is the face of someone who just got on a plane and flew for the first time without his wife!!! I’m not gonna lie there was a moment of terror. There’s no better feeling than conquering your fears.”

He flew all that way to appear on ABC’s The View, in which he joined all the ladies at the table to discuss not only the incredible milestone of GH being on for so long but also talked about the important message of men being allowed to cry — which he did on national television. In doing so, he probably made women’s hearts melt everywhere as he shared his pride over son Joshua’s skill as an actor. (The younger Benard recurs on GH as Adam, a Port Charles University student.)

Benard also had an incredibly touching moment (get ready for tears again) when he appeared on Tamron Hall’s show. You can watch the amazing interview and a very special reunion from the show’s official Twitter account below. It is worth it.

Finola Hughes Celebrates General Hospital

Hughes was on her former All My Children co-star’s talk show, Live With Kelly and Ryan, discussing with Kelly Ripa how the show was paying tribute to Sonya Eddy and her character Epiphany, which aired earlier this week before kicking into high gear with the Nurses Ball and the rest of the celebrations for the show’s anniversary.

They all marveled at how a show could even be on for this long and how extraordinary a milestone it truly is. But that wasn’t all that Finola Hughes, who has brought Anna Devane to life since first being introduced back in 1985, was up to during her time in New York. Earlier, she appeared on Good Morning America, which also did a tribute to the long-running ABC soap. Check out the video below of her discussion with Robin Roberts.
