Dancing With the Stars pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd and her husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy, a former DWTS pro, now, a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, have had their share of competitive dance offs. Now, the couple’s engaged in a real-life one with their son, Rio, who’s coming up on his first birthday.

Daddy’s Boy

“It’s the little victories,” said Chmerkovskiy, who played Anton on General Hospital during the show’s 50th anniversary celebration, as he looked into the camera after taking a victory lap when it became clear in the video below that little Rio prefers being in Daddy’s arms. You can see Murgatroyd reach out to take him from his dad a few times, but Rio simply isn’t having it!

“This makes me so sad,” the two-time mirror ball champion said.

Murgatroyd has a message for folks who are reading the comments section of her husband’s post. “[T]his was a one-off type of situation you’re looking at…” she says, adding a few crying, smiling, laughing emoji faces to her comment.

Crisis Opportunity

Christine Berman Holland had sage advice for Murgatroyd on how to handle her son opting to bond with his dad: “girl RUUUUUNNNN and take a nap while you have a chance lol,” she suggested.

Lindsey Rater Dovel quipped Maks has to “now change all the dirty diapers for a month for this!”

Pattie Borelli suggested: “well, then, Maks you are on duty for the whole day. Diaper…feedings and playing…get busy…lol wow he looks just like you.”

Mirror Ball Hat Trick?

The couple are currently expecting their third child later this year. (Click here to read our story on the baby’s gender reveal.) Might Murgatroyd be able to return to the ballroom in September should she be ready to compete once again on DWTS? She’s done it before.

“I was seven weeks post-partum with Shai when I went back to the show [in 2017]. It was interesting and amazing at the same time,” she told TV Insider about a year ago. “I feel it was one of the best things for myself after I gave birth. It was a nice way to get back into doing what I love, doing what I did four hours a day. I think because I was a better mom because I had that time away each day.”
