General Hospital’s Luke died on-screen years ago, but Anthony Geary passed on only recently. GH did a final tribute to the character and the actor on Friday, leaving fans with all kinds of feelings.
Key Takeaways
- GH created a loving tribute to the legend of Luke.
- The flashbacks were wonderful.
- Genie Francis brought us back to the “Luke and Laura” days.
- Some fans wanted more characters involved in the tribute.
Love For Luke
It was a full hour of Luke (the late Anthony Geary), but as far as fans are concerned, it could have been a full day.
Lulu (Alexa Havins) never grieved her dad, so she needed time to say goodbye. She and step-monster Tracy (Jane Elliot) went to the Brown Dog, where they were joined by Laura (Genie Francis), Sonny (Maurice Benard), Carly (Laura Wright), and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst).
The flashbacks were wonderful: young Luke and Sonny working together, his tumultuous but loving relationship with Tracy, advice to Carly, and a father-in-law to Elizabeth. But it was his scenes with Laura that brought tears: their epic wedding, adventures, and the classic scene at Wyndham’s Department Store. Plus, Francis’ acting when Laura spoke of her love for Luke was heartfelt.
Fans enjoyed it all—a simple, “Great episode,” from one. “I loved seeing their memories and how Luke impacted their lives,” was said on a Facebook page. Many others called it a “tearjerker.”
Not Enough
Most GH fans were happy with the tribute, but some always criticize. Many expressed unhappiness about who wasn’t there, past and present.
“I thought it was very rude not to include Scotty (Kin Shriner),” expressed one viewer, with many agreeing. Others were disappointed that Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) didn’t make a surprise appearance.
Long-time fans were hoping to see scenes with Luke and his sister, Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman), which didn’t happen.
There are many characters still in Port Charles who weren’t involved in the episode. Felicia (Kirsten Storms), Anna (Finola Hughes), Lucy (Lynn Herring), and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) all had close relationships with Luke.
