Lexi Ainsworth is sharing her thoughts on leaving General Hospital after her decade-plus run as Kristina Corinthos. Find out the Daytime Emmy winner’s thoughts on her emotional exit as she speaks to whether it was her decision to exit or if the show made the call.
Ainsworth posted a video on Instagram that details her departure from GH. “Hey, guys,” the actress began her post. “I wanted to come on here and speak to my General Hospital fans and let you guys know that after 10 transformative years both, personally and for my character, that I will be leaving General Hospital.
“I was looking forward to this upcoming storyline because it was inspired by a personal experience of mine,” Lexi Ainsworth shared. The actress did not elaborate on what that story is; presumably, it will be played out by Kate Mansi (ex-Abby, Days of our Lives, who is succeeding Ainsworth in the role of Kristina.) “But I am currently working on writing my own story from my point of view, which has been thus far cathartic and hopefully inspiring to other women. So I look forward to sharing that with you guys when it is completed.
“While General Hospital has remained a top priority,” Ainsworth continued, “I have been interested in pursuing new career opportunities that align with my evolving interests and goals. And I am confident that this mutually beneficial decision will lead to new endeavors where I will continue to grow and expand my talents beyond the industry.
“But I do want to take a second to address the fans and express my deepest appreciation to you guys who have supported me over the years,” she adds. “Your loyalty has been a constant inspiration, and I am forever grateful. The show would not be what it is without you guys.”
The actress’s soap opera friends wrote on Lexi Ainsworth’s post with supportive messages. “Love you Lex!” enthuses Brytni Sarpy (Elena, The Young and the Restless; ex-Valerie). “So excited to see where your talents bring you next…#newbeginnings.”
Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe, Y&R; ex-Margaux) wrote: “❤️ so proud of you! Watch out world. 🙌.” Added Eden McCoy (Joss): “So proud of you!!! Keep killing it.” Former GH star Johnny Wactor (ex-Brando) shared, “Congratulations on the start of your next chapter Lexi.” Laura Wright (Carly) added, “I can’t wait to see your journey unfold!! #onward.”
“As I leave General Hospital, I will continue carving out a space for myself where I am an active part of the creative process,” Ainsworth added. “As much as it is hard to say goodbye, I know this has ultimately freed me for what I am meant to be pursuing. So with that being said, I hope that you guys continue to support me in my journey, and I look forward to keeping you updated with all the exciting things that are going on in my life. I will start by sharing I have an episode of NCIS…” (A CBS rep tells Soap Hub that Ainsworth is set to appear in the Monday, May 8 episode titled “Second Opinion.” Her character is named Holly Lygnos. NCIS airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT.) “Hopefully, you guys can tune in and stay tuned for more,” Ainsworth says.
