They say the hardest thing a person can go through is to lose a child. Sadly, General Hospital star Kristina Wagner, along with ex-husband and former GH co-star Jack Wagner, experienced that tragedy last week when their son Harrison Wagner passed away at age 27. Now they have found a way to pay tribute to him — and help others who are suffering.
As Soap Hub reported last week, at the age of 27, Harrison passed away. His family acknowledged that he struggled with addiction and now has set up a charity to help others who are struggling and maybe can’t afford the help they need.
Over the weekend, several sites reported that they were setting up The Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund. The official site said the following from his family: “Harrison was a bright, exuberant young man whose smile lit up any room he was in. He has left behind many men and family members who loved him deeply. We are heartbroken that he ultimately lost his battle with addiction, and we hope that Harrison’s memory will live on through this scholarship and will help other young men get help for their addiction that would not otherwise be able to afford it.”
If you want to help with their mission, they ask that you click here to give what you can. They also want you to know that if you have a loved one who is in need of help but can’t afford it, that you check out what New Life House offers and give them a call at 888-633-4185 to learn more about their program.
New Life House was established in 1985 and was founded in San Pedro by Perry Petacia, with the hope of directly serving young men in recovery. “An alcoholic himself, Perry had been through a recovery center that emphasized identifying and modifying self-sabotaging behavior,” their official site says. “He opened New Life House, a group of sober living facilities in Torrance, in Los Angeles, with a vision of not just helping men abstain from alcohol and drug dependence, but rather transforming the lifestyles of alcoholics and addicts and teaching the life skills necessary to succeed.”
Several of Kristina Wagner’s General Hospital castmates have used their social media presence to shine a light on their co-star’s new endeavor, hoping to help raise awareness and money for this very worthwhile cause. The charity’s site also lets everyone know that all money donated “will be used to directly help young men pay their rent or a portion of their rent who could not otherwise afford their care at New Life House.”
