Kristina Takes One Step Forward to Being a Mobstress on General Hospital

The December 2 episode of General Hospital had a landmark moment for Sonny and Kristina’s relationship. It’s been speculated before that the one child of his who could eventually take over his mafia organization was Kristina. And it looks like she may actually be on that path. After the courtroom drama where Ric verbally eviscerated her on the stand, Kristina was a wreck. She worried that Ava would be found not guilty. But her dad stepped up and helped her find inner peace in the most unexpected of ways.

A Dish Best Served Cold

We’ve never really been privy to the inner workings of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) mind, except when he’s off his bipolar meds. But our favorite racketeer didn’t get to the top of the organized crime food chain by being emotional and giving knee-jerk responses to troubling situations. Sonny’s generally calm, cool, and collected, although sometimes he shows his anger. And that, as he instructed Kristina (Kate Mansi), is the key to his success.

In a touching yet chilling scene, Sonny and Kristina connected in a way they never have. She expressed that she wanted vengeance against Ava (Maura West) and Sonny understood her feelings. He told her that while revenge isn’t a good solution to problems, “Anger can keep it going.” She explained that her need to see Ava punished was her reason for getting up in the morning. Dad then said, “The desire for revenge and thirst for justice is a hell of a motivator. But if that is what’s gonna keep your head above water, I’m not gonna tell you to move away from it.” He then lowered his voice to a whisper, continuing, “I’m gonna tell you to embrace it.”

The Method of Steepest Revenge

Never has Kristina looked so much like her father than in these scenes. Sonny’s hair was slicked back per usual, and Kristina’s hair was similarly pulled back. Their eyes were locked as he told her he was proud of her for being strong and standing up for herself. She asked what would happen if Ava wasn’t found guilty. And Sonny replied that if the system failed her and Ava got away with it, he wouldn’t fail her. He implied that he’ll send Ava to sleep with the fishes.

It must be reiterated that while Sonny is technically a criminal, he keeps Port Charles safe by having a strict no drugs, no prostitution, and no illegal guns policy. His presence keeps the really awful mobsters from laying waste to Port Charles. In this conversation, he helped Kristina shed her anxious ways by teaching her how to tap into her anger. And to use that anger to her advantage, and she became as calm as he is. He wants her to work for his coffee company. The way these two connected on such a fundamental level, it’s clear that she’ll be working for his other “business” in no time. (Check out the change that Mansi teased for Kristina.)
