General Hospital star Josh Kelly has been playing con man Cody Bell since 2022. However, eagle-eyed soap fans have noticed that he is no longer listed in the credits as on contract on the ABC soap.
The news came as Cody struck a deal with Kristina (Kate Mansi) to seduce Ava (Maura West) despite his growing feelings for Molly (Kristen Vaganos). Kelly spoke to Soap Opera Digest about his future with the show, and there’s good news for Molly and Cody fans.

Kelly revealed to the outlet that his contract status doesn’t really reflect his future with the show. In fact, he decided to go recurring so he could work on other projects while still playing in Port Charles.

“I want to stay on General Hospital forever!” he expressed before sharing why he went off contract. “Chloe and I are making a movie that we’re planning on shooting for two months. We’re also trying to shoot the sequel to the movie that I have coming out this summer, The Workout. I just wouldn’t be able to do that if I was on contract; you don’t just get to go off and do a bunch of other projects. And I wouldn’t expect the show to work around my schedule.”
The actor has been dating former GH star Chloe Lanier, who played Nelle, for over a year. They went public with their romance in June 2024. Lanier was even at the recent GH fan convention, where she posed with Kelly and his on-screen ladies, West and Vaganos.

Not Going Anywhere
When it came time to ask GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini about his status change, Kelly revealed that his boss “bent over backwards to make it work.” Kelly admitted that he pushed for the status change so as not to let down GH or his other projects.
“I would like to stay forever. I love being here. I love everyone that I’m working with on the show. I was just looking to have a little more flexibility,” he spilled.
In fact, Kelly even shared that he wants to see a romantic twist between Cody and Tracy (Jane Elliot) during his time on the show. We are not sure how fans would feel about that pairing, but we are glad Kelly is sticking around.
