Josh Kelly, who plays Cody Bell on General Hospital, has booked another role. The athletic actor has been cast in The Workout, an action movie that also stars Peter Jae (Darkness of Man) and Ashlee Evans-Smith, a UFC fighter.
According to Deadine, the movie’s cast also includes Kristos Andrews (Pete, The Bay). The film’s story tells the tale of two army rangers who set out to create a workout video only to have their plans halted by a mob hit. One of the rangers loses his wife during the attack, which sends him on a relentless mission to take down the mob.
The Workout‘s producers are James Cullen Bressack, Jarrett Furst, and Ben Stobber. Gregori J. Martin, a Daytime Emmy winner for executive producing The Bay, is one of the movie’s executive producers.
“As artists, a painter paints, a musician makes music, a writer writes, but as filmmakers, we have to ask permission to create,” says Bressack. “It’s time to change that narrative. This film spawned from a necessity to create. We create. We tell stories. We play pretend. I’m excited to take this journey. This is the truest form of collaboration and a community of friends coming together to make something fun. While our industry has had a rough time recently with strikes and a possible strike looming in the future, it’s nice to remind ourselves why we got into film to begin with. To have fun telling stories.”
There’s no word yet on how a filming schedule may (or may not) affect screen time for Kelly’s Cody. Viewers are aware that Mac (John J. York) is Cody’s dad, but Mac doesn’t yet know. Fans hope that the paternity secret plays out when York, currently on medical leave, hopefully returns to the show later this year.
