Sentencing for Accessories to the Crime

According to reports by Deadline, yesterday two men involved in the events surrounding Wactor’s death received their sentences. Frank Olana, 22, was sentenced to five years and eight months after being convicted of being an accessory after the fact, receiving stolen property, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. Meanwhile, Leonel Gutierrez, who had pled guilty in September to armed robbery and grand theft, received a four-year sentence. Both men’s roles, while not directly tied to Wactor’s murder, contributed to the web of criminal activity that culminated in the actor’s tragic death.

Awaiting Justice for the Key Defendants

Two other defendants, Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, both 18, are set to return to court on January 22nd. They face serious charges, including murder, attempted second-degree robbery, and one count of grand theft. Prosecutors allege that less than 30 minutes before Wactor’s killing, the pair removed a catalytic converter from another vehicle two miles away. These crimes form part of a sequence of events that ended with Wactor’s death.

The allegations against Barceleau are particularly severe. He is charged with a special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery, alongside accusations that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, causing great bodily injury and death to Wactor. Both Barceleau and Estrada are also accused of committing these crimes to benefit a street gang, adding another layer of gravity to the case.

A Community in Mourning

The death of Johnny Wactor left a profound impact on his fans, colleagues, and loved ones. Known for his portrayal of Brando Corbin on General Hospital, Wactor was celebrated for his talent, kindness, and dedication to his craft. His untimely death serves as a stark reminder of the senseless violence that continues to plague communities.

As the trials for Barceleau and Estrada approach, the hope remains that justice will be served, offering some solace to those mourning the loss of a beloved actor and friend. The sentences delivered so far mark the beginning of accountability, but the full truth behind that tragic day has yet to be revealed.
