Here we go again on General Hospital. Suddenly, Elizabeth Webber has money problems again. How does this keep happening? Does she have a gambling problem we’re not aware of? Is her closet filled with designer shoes? Does she only do her grocery shopping at Whole Foods?
Here are three reasons why, despite being the single mom of three teenage boys (who, granted, must consume their body weight in snacks on the daily), Elizabeth should not constantly be on the verge of poverty.
Liz (Rebecca Herbst) is a nurse in New York State. The average salary for a nurse in NY state is over $96,000. Elizabeth is Head Nurse at GH — just like her grandma Audrey (Rachel Ames) used to be. The average salary for a Head Nurse in NY State is over $130,000, with some making as much as $156,000.
Even if GH is on the cheaper side — maybe they claim to offer great benefits to make up for it, like not needing to show up for work if you don’t feel like it — Liz should be making at least $119,000 in her position. That puts her in the 75th percentile of all American wage earners. And it’s not even her only source of income.
Even if Steve (John Beradino) and Audrey didn’t remember Elizabeth in their respective wills, what about Franco (Roger Howarth)? Elizabeth is his widow. And, at the time of his death, he was an extremely successful artist. Isn’t his work still being sold? Aren’t his images being used commercially? Why isn’t Elizabeth the recipient of all that money?
And then there are Elizabeth’s three sons. Cameron is on scholarship to Stanford (not sure how he got it, he’s not an athlete and, unless Elizabeth lied, he certainly doesn’t qualify for full financial aid). But, the point is, he isn’t at home eating Elizabeth’s food. Aiden should be getting child support from Lucky. It’s the least that deadbeat can do. And Jake’s dad just came back from the dead. If Jake didn’t inherit something from Jason (Steve Burton) before, Jason should be making up for it now. And are we supposed to believe the Quartermaines didn’t want to help support their grandson?
The point is that Liz should be set financially. The only thing we can think of is that she’s hiding her assets so that Jake, who is not the brain Cameron supposedly is and can’t hope for a merit college scholarship, will be treated as a low-income pupil. Elizabeth won’t have to pony up for two tuitions, then eventually three. Smart!
