Before General Hospital‘s Rick Hearst ever starred in a daytime soap, he kicked off his career as the lead in a horror movie. Yes, before he was Scotty Banning on Days of Our Lives and Alan-Michael Spaulding on Guiding Light, he was Brian in a horror flick called Brain Damage. Brian and Brain — you see what they did there? Anyway, the movie was about a young man who wakes up to find that he has a disgusting little creature attached to his brain stem. Yikes.
The 1988 film served as Hearst’s debut acting role. And last weekend, the Emmy-winning actor appeared at a horror convention in Houston, Texas, where he celebrated the cult classic about a talking parasite with fans. Hearst also celebrated the 35-year-old flick with cookies. Designed by @cakesbyjennifer210, the delicious dessert featured the actor’s face.
Hearst posted about the sweet, surreal situation on his Instagram account, saying, “Amazing! When you see yourself on a cookie. If I eat it am I a cannibal?! 😂#houstonhorrorfilmfestival #eatme“
Hearst doesn’t need to worry about any cannibalistic tendencies where he’s working now. However, he may have to worry about vengeful tendencies, his own and presumably half the town of Port Charles.
After all, the veteran soap actor has been back filming on the set of GH. Soon, his character, Attorney Ric Lansing, will pop up and undoubtedly start making life hell for those around him.
Ric will also reconnect with his daughter Molly (Kristen Vaganos) at a very vulnerable time for her. She and her domestic partner, TJ (Tajh Bellow), recently lost another chance at having a baby. Of course, Ric will have something to say about Kristina (Kate Mansi) falling tragically from Ava’s hotel suite at the Metro Court Hotel. Ric’s return may mean reconnecting with his past love interests, including Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), AKA Molly’s mother.
In late July, Hearst posted about returning to the lot where GH tapes. He wrote, “Ric Lansing is back on the canvas! Raise your hand if you’re excited to see what Rick Hearst has in store for Port Charles. 📸 @rickhearst #BehindtheScenes #GH #GeneralHospital“
Reportedly, Hearst’s first airdate is set for early next week. The talented actor has won three Daytime Emmys over the years, including two for his role as Ric Lansing.
