With the impending recast of Lulu on General Hospital, it seems only natural that there would be complications. Sure enough, on the August 20 episode, it was revealed that her liver is failing. Liver transplants are commonplace, and considering Jonathan Jackson is returning as her brother, Lucky, he might be able to donate part of his liver to save her life. However, that’s most likely not the case, and her other brother may have to come to the rescue.
When Lulu was a little kid, she was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, which required a bone marrow transplant. Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) was not a viable match, so from out of the woodwork came their unknown other sibling, Nikolas (then Tyler Christopher), the long-lost son of their mother, Laura (Genie Francis). His arrival in town saved Lulu’s life, but his existence tore Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura apart.
During those early days, Lulu was portrayed by several child actors until Julie Marie Berman took on the role as an older version in 2005, and then in 2013, Emme Rylan stepped into her shoes. While Berman was a huge fan favorite, it only took a little while for Rylan to also become beloved and associated with the part. But now, with the recast, it may seem that Adam Huss (himself a recast for Christopher) could be reprising his role as Nik in order to donate part of his body once again to save Lulu.
Details about Jackson’s return as Lucky are scarce, but logic would dictate that he’s returning because his sister is dying. We haven’t heard anything about Huss reprising his role, but it seems that he’s always ready and willing to play the Cassadine scion at a moment’s notice. In real life, it’s unclear whether or not a bone marrow recipient needs to have the same donor if they require a liver transplant or if someone who was previously not a match could do it. In that case, it’s possible that Lucky could be a viable donor.
However, Laura may initially recall the previous marrow situation and immediately demand that Nik be let out of jail, at least for the time it would take to donate part of his liver to Lulu. That being said, if it turns out that Lucky can donate as well, instead of a love triangle, there could very well be an organ triangle in which the brothers argue over who should be the one to save Lulu’s life! (Find out what Rylan had to say about her GH exit.)
