The latest episode of State of Mind left Maurice Benard with no need to talk about his and his guest’s General Hospital stardom.
After nearly an hour of chatting with GH co-star Jonathan Jackson (Lucky), Benard (Sonny) ended the podcast episode with an unexpected sentiment. “I almost don’t want to ruin what we just experienced,” he said after noting he planned on talking about their soap.
“Because then we’re going to put, like, ‘And how was Becky Herbst?”” he joked about Jackson’s on-screen love interest, Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth). “And I don’t think it’s needed. Your work speaks for itself.”
Despite not bringing GH into the conversation, Jackson and Benard did recently share the screen today on the November 15 episode when Sonny gave Lucky advice about staying in Port Charles.
The pair discussed Jackson’s upbringing, being raised around a love of music and the role Nashville played in his musical journey. The actors went on to talk about Jackson’s books, his spirituality, and his inspiring relationship with his wife, former GH star Lisa Vultaggio (ex-Hannah).
Benard also revealed to viewers how Jackson helped him through a mental health struggle earlier this year. “It took me pretty much down, and Jonathan and Steve, we all prayed.”

Benard opened up about Steve Burton’s (Jason) role in helping him through the struggle back in, and how the experience taught him “a lot about friendship.”
“To be there as a friend is one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life,” Jackson told Benard.
