Some of General Hospital‘s latest cast additions come from the land of primetime and streaming television. For example, Adam J. Harrington, who, until recently, played Agent Cates, is best known for starring on The CW’s The Secret Circle, Supernatural, and Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer. Charles Mesure’s recent credits include Syfy’s The Magicians, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, and Desperate Housewives. Take the actor who currently plays the villainous crime lord keeping Lucky hostage in East Africa. Carlo Rota has appeared in numerous TV and film projects. In fact, we’re betting you’ve seen him plenty of times before.
Bad Guy Backstory
Since Jonathan Jackson’s return to GH, Lucky Spencer’s character has been holed up in a tiny room somewhere in Somalia. His go-to method of distraction is playing poker opposite the crime lord, who keeps coming up with reasons not to kill his hostage.

Carlo Rota currently plays Sidwell, the villainous, poker-loving threat to Lucky’s freedom. The talented character actor is no stranger to playing mafia dons, crime bosses, terrorists, corrupt prison wardens, and, of course, rich and shady businessmen.
Five Times Carlo Rota Played a Bad Guy
Here is just a taste of Rota’s Bad Guy Roster:
- Bad Guy #1: Emilio Solano, Jane the Virgin
- Solano was Rafael and Luisa’s sleazy businessman father. The consistent cheater ultimately met a brutal ending. He died in a batch of dried concrete.
- Bad Guy #2: Anton LaVey, American Horror Story: Apocalypse
- LaVey was the supreme leader of a group called The Satanists. If your group’s name includes the word “Satan,” then you’re a bad guy.
- Bad Guy #3: Ivan, Scandal
- Ivan was a terrorist who was an associate of Olivia Pope’s evil mother, Maya Lewis. Enough said.
- Bad Guy #4: Giuseppe “Papa Joe” Yakavetta, Boondock Saints
- Papa Joe was the Don of the Yakavetta crime organization. Yes, he ran a syndicate, which meant there was nothing warm and fuzzy about him. He wanted to hunt down members of the Saints.
- Bad Guy #5: Remington Meiser, The Flash
- Rota played a German crime boss who faced superheroes The Flash and The Elongated Man.
And One Time Carlo Rota Played a Good Guy
On Fox’s 24, Rota, who was born in the UK but raised in Italy, Canada, Hong Kong, and the Bahamas, played Morris O’Brian. He was Chloe’s husband and the father of their child. While Morris wasn’t a bad guy, he did have an alcohol addiction. So, he was very smart and, at times, very troubled. And since this is 24, his character may have had a brush with danger or two. Tragically, Morris and his son were killed in a hit-and-run accident. Poor Chloe.

In addition, the actor’s small screen credits include 1994’s La Femme Nikia series on USA Network, Fox’s Lethal Weapon, CBS’s Scorpion, and Syfy’s Dark Matter.
