As General Hospital’s Trina has dealt with all kinds of soapy drama, her portrayer, Tabyana Ali, has branched out to participate in a different kind of drama. Co-starring in the upcoming film Empire Waist, she happily shared news of its release with her fans, who are excited for her new project.
GH star Tabyana Ali always brings a great performance to the show as Trina, who recently had no choice but to tell the police the truth that she saw Ava (Maura West) looking through her broken hotel room window after Kristina (Kate Mansi) tragically smashed through it and landed in the pool below, losing the life of her unborn child. Even Ava herself couldn’t be mad at Trina for her honesty.
She took to Instagram to share the trailer of a new film she’s appearing in called Empire Waist, and wrote, “Everyone!! Everyone!! Here’s the trailer for Empire Waist!!! IM SO EXCITED FOR YALL TO SEE IT!! September 27th.” GH castmates Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Jon Lindstrom (Kevin), Scarlett Brielle (Donna), and Tanisha Harper (Jordan) praised her announcement, with Cassandra James (Terry) gleefully responding, “Congrats beautiful! So sweet! 🤩💖.”
According to IMDb, the movie “Follows a group of teens learning to love their bodies through inclusive fashion design and friendship.”
Master Class explains that “An empire waist dress is a dress with a fitted bodice that drapes out under the bustline, rather than at the natural waistline.” This kind of dress is flattering to a variety of body types, and in the movie, Kaplan’s character, Lenore, is highly skilled at making dresses but doesn’t feel she’s worthy enough to wear them until she meets Yevu’s Kayla, who helps her gain incredible self-worth.
Writer and director Claire Ayoub and the film’s official Instagram page also shared the trailer with the caption, “Be yourself. It’s the latest fashion 🤩 EMPIRE WAIST is exclusively in theaters September 27th 💜💖.”
In May, she told USA Wire that she had also struggled with her self-worth for quite a while, and although she had written the script, which was cathartic for her, she shelved it for four years to enter into therapy and tackle her personal issues. She explained, “At my core, I knew I couldn’t tell other people to love themselves if I couldn’t do it.”
With an impressive cast that includes Mia Kaplan (The Goldbergs), Jemima Yevu, Rainn Wilson (The Office), and beloved soap star Ali, the film looks to be a fun, empowering event for all audiences.
Last month, Ali shared the poster for the film on Instagram, excitedly writing, “I’m really grateful to be a part of this spectacular film. This was such a dream job! I wish I could go back in time and shoot this feature all over again!! Can’t wait for you to meet all of the lovable, inspiring, and talented cast/characters!!”
