Fans have been outraged by Kelly Monaco’s unceremonious exit from General Hospital. They even went so far as to rally for her firing to be reversed and had an ‘#ISTANDWITHKELLY’ billboard set up in New York City’s Times Square. But, the show has been very good about keeping casting comings and goings a secret until almost the last minute. What if this was the old bait and switch to set things up anew for Monaco?
Killing off a character and having them return as a different one is nothing new for GH. Both Michael Easton and Roger Howarth have played several unrelated characters on the show. So, fans wouldn’t be surprised if Monaco returned as a new character as well. In fact, they’d be pleased as punch. Fans and even the actress herself noted that Sam has been rather lackluster in recent years. Perhaps a major change was in order.
Sam started off as a conwoman and evolved into a motherly figure, taking good care of her family. But what if that’s just a dead end for the character? Aside from donating part of her liver to save the life of a comatose Lulu (Alexa Havins), the last major thing she did was help save her sister Kristina (Kate Mansi) from the Dawn of Day cult.
After Sam’s demise, her mother Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) lamented the fact that she was forced to give up her daughter by her father, Mikkos Cassadine (John Colicos), and missed out on Sam’s childhood. But what if Sam wasn’t the only baby she gave birth to that day?

It happened with Nina: she was in a coma while pregnant and thought she lost the baby. Then, she thought she had one child that survived, only later to discover that there were twins. The same could have happened to Alexis. She was a teenager when she had a one-night stand with Julian Jerome and was forced to give the child up for adoption.
But the Cassadines are as clever as they are evil. Perhaps Mikkos, with some help from Helena (Constance Towers), made Alexis somehow fall unconscious and deliver twins, with the first given up for adoption and the second raised in secret by the Cassadines.
Helena read her own will on a video and left Sam almost nothing. “To Samantha Morgan née McCall, I’m leaving…one cent because that’s all any child of Alexis is worth” (via Inqiusitr). Fans took that to imply Jason (Steve Burton) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) were two sides of the same coin or twins.
Perhaps she was really insinuating that Sam was a twin. If her sister was identical and raised by the villainous family, Monaco could return as that sibling. However, this new sibling would have a darker edge to her.
We can see it now: She’d be clad in tight-fitting, black leather clothes and would be as lethal as anyone else in the family. It could be a fresh start for Monaco to begin anew, and her character could have a fun arc as she tries to become nicer because everyone in Port Charles expects her to be like Sam. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility. And it would add fresh spice to the show!
