For many General Hospital viewers, 2024 may have seemed a bit bumpy because of a couple of writer changes that went on behind the scenes. Ultimately, the show settled on head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, and the two have been working in tandem ever since. They recently opened up about their vision for GH in 2025.
Korte and Van Etten spoke with TV Insider, and the two agreed that they have a responsibility not only to the history of the almost 62-year-old soap but also to the fans who have been following the characters’ exploits for years. “We’re privileged to write for such a talented cast, many of whom have embodied their roles for decades,” they remarked. “It’s humbling. We work daily to earn and maintain the trust of our audience and colleagues.”
Certainly, coming up with new and creative scenarios is truly challenging, but the two are up for the task. Van Etten praised his co-head writer, explaining that working with her has been an honor. “She has a steady hand, abundant empathy, and an awesome imagination.”

Likewise, Korte praised Van Etten, explaining that she loves collaborating with him because he, “Brings so much creativity, enthusiasm, and experience to the task.” She hoped that because she’s worked on the show in the past (since 1995 as a writer in various capacities), she would be able to draw upon the characters’ histories as they develop future storylines. She also says she fully understands the audience’s investment in the show and its characters. “We want to honor that investment — what they watched, what they care about — as we build new story.”
“Volatile and sexy” is how they described their current vision of the show. Between shocking affairs, murder, explosions, heart issues, and more, the show certainly lives up to that description. The two also have a unique dynamic because they’re able to throw out any idea, no matter how ridiculous, and whittle them down to the ones they’ll use. “Sometimes, when we rein it in, the ludicrous idea is the most exciting one,” they said, and those are the ideas we look forward to!
