Hard Conversations and Softball Interviews on the July 24 General Hospital

In the Wednesday, July 24, episode of General Hospital, Blaze and Kristina finally faced the haters with a public interview with host Perez Hilton. The questions asked didn’t keep the two on their toes, but the interview went as well as they could have imagined. On the flip side, there were hard conversations among several pairings that needed to happen.

Softball Interview: Natalia 1, Ava 0

Kristina (Kate Mansi) and Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) went into the Perez Hilton (playing himself) interview prepared for anything. They hoped to face questions that didn’t further damage their reputations and careers. What transpired was a publicist’s dream, or in this case, Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) dream, since she is Blaze’s manager and new record label boss.

There were no surprise twists or questions. No insightful follow-ups that served to dig deeper into their story. The one who made out the best here was Natalia (Eva LaRue). Granted, she didn’t give consent to the recording. But still, she said what she said, and those words hurt her daughter and her daughter’s girlfriend. Instead, Ava’s recording and leaking of the audio was the biggest crime here. That was the takeaway. It feels like there could have been more drama mined in this story, but that may still happen. In the preview for tomorrow, TJ (Tajh Bellow) and Molly (Kristen Vaganos) don’t look happy. After all, Hilton did ask Kristina one question about her pregnancy. Basically, she said no comment.

Hard Conversation #1: Sacrifice

Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason (Steve Burton) screamed and yelled at each other about who would sacrifice for the other. Obviously, Jason decided he was the only one who could do it. He didn’t think Carly could turn herself in because of Donna (Scarlett Spears). (Soap Hub asks where Laura was during the recent tribute to Luke)

Furthermore, he didn’t feel as obligated because his sons had mothers who were always there for their kids. We’ve been privy to this argument on GH over and over again. Ultimately, Jason decided to give up reconnecting with his kids to head out on the mission that Cates (Adam J. Harrington) lined up for him. And while Carly felt sick to her stomach, she listened to him and stayed behind. That doesn’t mean she’ll back down from Cates, however. And that doesn’t mean Jason will actually leave town.

Hard Conversation #2: Who’s More Corrupt?

Speaking of Cates, he and Anna (Finola Hughes) went at it in her office at the PCPD. And not in the way he just went at it with Ava in her hotel room. Suddenly, John’s focus has shifted from Pikeman to his vendetta against Sonny (Maurice Benard — who has a little fun at his own expense here). And both law enforcement professionals accused each other of hypocrisy. Both are right since Cates kept leaning in on Anna’s relationship with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). He knew in his heart of hearts that Anna ensured Valentin’s escape, which she did.

Meanwhile, Anna accused Cates of using his job to bring down Sonny for a vendetta that was years in the making. This was also true. Jason served up the evidence of the man behind Pikeman: Valentin. Yet, just because he didn’t nab the Cassadine at his home, he will instead string Jason along and change the parameters of their agreement. How is that even possible? This hard conversation didn’t produce much in the way of answers. But we bet Anna could potentially head to the bus station and stop Jason from leaving. What could Cates actually do in retaliation?

Hard Conversation #3: Ex-Besties Battle

As much as we’d love to see Ava (Maura West) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) against the world, that’s no longer meant to be. Alas, their friendship is over, and they will continually find themselves on opposite sides. Ava had the audacity to approach Nina, who was consulting with her daughter, Willow. The woman attempted to play on the whole mom angle, but Nina wasn’t listening.

In fact, she told her former friend that she thought Sonny would make a better parent for Avery than Ava did! How the mighty friendships have fallen. The one concession was that Nina wanted to try and stay out of the fray of this custody case, but ultimately, if push came to shove, she’d show up for Sonny. And then the two went their separate ways.
