Ava Jerome, played by Maura West, isn’t Sonny’s favorite person in the world on General Hospital. However, that doesn’t mean they totally avoid each other’s respective orbits. After all, they share a child — Avery. This past year, when Sonny was keeping secrets from ladylove Nina, he freely shared what he was up to with Ava. West recently talked about why that was.
Maura West on Like Attracting Like
Maura West and Avery Kristen Pohl (Esme Prince) recently took part in a live chat with fans via Coastal Entertainment where they shared their thoughts on their respective characters. West was asked about a scene last year when Sonny shared with Ava what he’d done to Dex (Evan Hofer) when he felt he couldn’t trust him — a story that the coffee importer did not share with Nina (Cynthia Watros)!
“I love it,” West said when it was noted that clearly, Sonny feels he can show his more devious side to Ava without batting an eye. West admitted she initially found herself asking what these scenes were about. The actress says that the episode director, Gary Tomlin, and Benard had a handle on it from the beginning — the audience was going to see that, on some level, Sonny and Ava are quite comfortable with one another as he shared information about what he’d been up to with keeping Dex captive while he figured out where his loyalties were.
Remembering Morgan Corinthos
West feels that because of Ava’s role in Morgan’s death, it would take a while for Sonny and Ava to ever get on the same page again past a certain point. However, that’s not to say it’s out of the realm of possibilities. “I’m a believer that Sonny and Ava should get a chance together romantically,” West offered. “[What happened with Morgan] would be tough for Sonny to overcome.”
Maura West Never Say Never
Still, the actress is, as they say, putting it out to the universe that Sonny and Ava explore something together in the future should he become available. Given his love for Nina, that doesn’t appear imminent, but West admits she’s patient. “That’s going to happen,” she effuses, hastening to add that she doesn’t know this officially. “The writers haven’t told me, but in my mind, it’s going to happen. [Ava] is able to be herself with [Sonny]. They’re not going to judge each other. That’s what Maurice was telling me. I love that. I love that about them. We’ll see.”
