The characters of Ned Quartermaine and his daughter Brook Lynn Quartermaine have a history of singing on General Hospital. The two actors in question, Wally Kurth and Amanda Setton, recently discussed that and so much more.

The two actors hung out with fans during a Coastal Entertainment Zoom event this past weekend in which one attendee, Julie, wanted to know if Setton was a singer in real life, much like her character — or at least how her character was before Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) sliced her throat.

“Yeah, I do sing,” she smiled. “But I don’t professionally sing, and I’ve said to Wally and Josh [Swickard; Harrison Chase] and this other great girl who is on the show right now who plays the role of Blaze and has an amazing voice and stage presence, she is like a firecracker, she is amazing. You have to have a real confidence, and if it’s just us, or we’re in a studio, I could definitely sing.

“But I do think there’s a different level of command over the material and over the craft that one needs to have,” she continued, “and a comfort that I don’t know that I possess. Brook Lynn is such a badass and such a confident woman, I wouldn’t want to do her a disservice, so it just kind of worked out…the storyline, how it’s going. If there’s an opportunity where her vocal cords magically heal, which I’m sure in General Hospital-land, anything’s possible, then we’ll see what happens, but for right now, I am grateful in that sense that it’s not the end all, be all for Brook Lynn, is her voice. I can play badass pretty well. I don’t know that I could play badass singer so great.”

“If I have anything to do with it,” interjected Kurth with a twinkle in his eye, “We’ll be singing together at a Nurses Ball in the future.” Amanda Setton seemed to be good with that possibility — and certainly, the fans were too.
