Kristen Alderson, who grew up before our eyes as Starr Manning on One Life to Live and brought her over to General Hospital, and then originated the role of Kiki Jerome there as well, had some sad news to report this week.
Kristen Alderson Suffers An Intense Loss
The actress alerted fans on her managed Facebook account that her beloved dog, Pooka, passed on a few weeks ago, and she finally had the strength to write about it.
Alderson’s post, which was more than 2,000 words, told the life story of her beloved pooch (with a photomontage of different images of his life) and is sure to bring a tear to your eye. Born on June 9, 2009, Pooka lived a full life, with plenty of love, by the time he passed on February 28 this year.
“I want to start by saying that I don’t expect anyone to read this all, I just felt with my whole heart that I needed to write this all out,” Alderson begins. “Pooka passed 3 weeks ago today and I’ve been writing this on and off for the past 2 weeks. Saying too little felt like I was doing him and our relationship a disservice. Also, many of you were fans of his as well, so I felt like you deserved to know what happened if you wanted to.”
The actress was 18 when Pooka came into her life, and she described him as “an old soul,” knowing how to tell her exactly what he wanted with just a look. Alderson recalled how they first bonded and how that bond would last forever.
“We got him in New York, so at the time I was still on One Life to Live. I used to sneak him into the studio in a green bag,” she recounts.

Pooka had some health problems throughout his life, including needing to get emergency surgery after swallowing a felt button, and was diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis (inflammation of the brain). He recovered but needed to get a chemo shot once a month and was on a ton of meds to keep the inflammation away. More problems arose, but the dog fought them all like a champ.
On his final day, Alderson was with him and watched as his eyes closed for the last time.
“It was the most intense, yet sweet/beautiful, and most heartbreaking moment of my life,” she shared. “Nothing could have prepared me for that, but I am SO GRATEFUL that he gave me the gift of being there for him. Even though losing him has been the worst pain of my life, I would do it all again in a heartbeat because loving him and having him in our lives for 12 years was worth it all. I will love him for the rest of my life. He was and is a part of me, and I know we’ll be reunited again. Until then my Buhbuhs. Mommy loves you.”
