It’s always a good day when Scott Baldwin makes an appearance on General Hospital and the always-welcome Kin Shriner is celebrating a major milestone.

Happy Birthday, Kin Shriner

That’s because he was born on December 6, 1953, in New York City, which means that this talented performer is turning 70 years old today! Before landing his first on-camera role, Shriner was an employee of the Fuller Brush company, for whom he worked as a door-to-door salesman.

That first acting gig was as “Friend” in an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man, which was soon followed by guest spots on Baa Baa Black Sheep and Eight Is Enough. On August 2, 1977, Shriner was seen for the first time as Scotty Baldwin on ABC’s General Hospital.

Shriner remained at GH until 1980, and following his exit, he immediately joined the cast of NBC’s Texas. There he played Jeb Hampton. In 1981, he made a triumphant return to GH and stayed until 1983. There was a further reprisal between 1987-1993, and in 1997 he joined fellow GH’s Lynn Herring and Jon Lindstrom as lead actors in the spinoff series Port Charles.

In 2000 he returned to the mother series and starred until 2004. Another brief return in 2007, and he has been a recurring player since 2013. During his frequent absences from the medical soap, Shriner appeared in a plethora of other programs — both daytime and nighttime.

During afternoon hours, he had parts on Rituals, The Bold and the Beautiful (Dr. Brian Carey), The Young and the Restless (Harrison Bartlett and Jeffrey Bardwell), and As the World Turns (Keith Morrissey).

On primetime, he appeared on The Love Boat, Full House, Monsters, Baywatch Nights, and Melrose Place. From 2003-2006 he lent his voice to the DC animated series Justice League on which he “played” Oliver Queen, AKA Green Arrow.
