General Hospital is all about who shot Drew, with nearly every major character involved in being a suspect, covering up for a suspect, accusing new suspects, or acting suspiciously. Elizabeth’s role in the story has been to testify that the gun used to shoot Drew, which was found in her house, could have been planted there by Michael. She’s done that. And then promptly disappeared again. Is that really what this nearly 30-year veteran of the show deserves?
Key Takeaways
- Rebecca Herbst has demonstrated she can carry a major story.
- Lucky’s return was completely wasted.
- Elizabeth needs to be front and center.
MORE: Does Drew already know who shot him?
Past Performance
From the moment Elizabeth arrived in Port Charles in 1997, we knew she was a bad girl because she SMOKED — Rebecca Herbst has demonstrated she’s got what it takes to drive the story. Whether it’s Elizabeth dealing with being raped, her on-and-off romance with Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), or her grieving the death, then celebrating the resurrection of her son, Jake, Herbst has delivered applause-worthy performances day in and day out.
Love Stuck
Elizabeth’s relationships have included Jason (Steve Burton), Nikolas, and Franco (Roger Howarth), among others, but her longest romantic entanglement has been with Lucky (Jonathan Jackson).
The latter just won his record-breaking sixth Daytime Emmy for a return story that felt anticlimactic on every level, especially when it came to Lucky and Elizabeth. They both did their best with the material. But there wasn’t much to work with.
Multiple Potentialities
Elizabeth needs a new love interest. How about Curtis (Donnell Turner)? How about Dante (Dominic Zampronga)? How about TJ (Tajh Bellow)? Michael (Rory Gibson)? Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Anyone?
And, until then, can we at least see her with her children? Is Cam (William Lipton) having no issues in California? Is Jake (Hudson West) all over his Cassadine-inspired trauma? Does Aiden (Colin Cassidy) have no feelings about Lucky dropping in and out of his life? Don’t any of them need their mother? We know we do!
