In much the same way the show rang in its 35th anniversary back in 1998, an hour-long documentary looking back at the history and impact of General Hospital will air in primetime to honor its 60th anniversary.

General Hospital Returns To Primetime

According to a press release issued by ABC, the special, titled General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling, will feature “Fan-favorite cast members from throughout the years as they pull back the curtain on six decades in Port Charles, including behind-the-scenes moments, bloopers, a special fan tribute and more exciting surprises honoring General Hospital‘s legacy.”

Among the “robust slate of current and past cast members” tapped to appear in the retrospective are stalwarts Genie Francis (Laura Collins), Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine), Finola Hughes (Anna Devane), and Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), as well as celebrity alumni including Rick Springfield (ex-Noah Drake) and Amber Tamblyn (ex-Emily Quartermaine).

In anticipation of the special airing, Nathan Varni, Executive Director Current Programming ABC, took to X (formerly Twitter) and enthused, “Thrilled that #GH is coming to Primetime!”

General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling is executive produced by Frank Valentini and directed by Ashley Gorman. It will air on ABC on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 10 p.m. EST and be added to Hulu the next day.
