With Peter dead and Cyrus arrested, the terror level in Port Charles has died down a bit, and General Hospital’s Sasha Gilmore may be growing closer to her baby’s daddy, Brando Corbin. The actress portraying her, Sofia Mattsson, took a cue and announced that she is indeed pregnant in real life.
Rumors had been swirling that Mattsson and her husband, Thomas Payton, who just celebrated their five-year anniversary in May, might be expecting, but she didn’t want to take away from her GH storyline.
“Kept it a secret for a while to not spoil anything for GH viewers,” Mattsson revealed, “but now that miss Sasha Gilmore’s pregnancy is in full force I can finally share that I’m so grateful to be sharing this pregnancy journey with her!”
In a post on Instagram, she shared a gorgeous picture of her in which her baby bump is in full view. “BIG things happening!” exclaimed Mattsson. “So happy and excited to finally share this (almost ready to pop) bump with everyone!”
The Swedish-born actress first arrived in Port Charles as Sasha in 2018, convinced by Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) to pose as Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) long-lost daughter. She found herself drawn to Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and the two fell in love. Wanting to help him keep custody of his son, she broke his heart by pretending to have an affair with Chase (Josh Swickard), pushing Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) in Michael’s direction.
Sasha partnered up with Lucy Coe’s (Lynn Herring) company, Deception. Distraught over her breakup with Michael, Sasha found herself needing a boost on a photoshoot and the photographer gave her drugs. She eventually found herself addicted to drugs, thanks to Cyrus (Jeff Kober), who became obsessed with the young model. It nearly destroyed her but she was able to get the help she needed and get clean. A moment of attraction led to a one-night stand with Brando (Johnny Wactor) and left her pregnant and in danger of Cyrus’s wrath.
Now, seemingly safe and in the clear, Sasha can breathe a sigh of relief, and Mattsson can embrace her good news with her fans! The actress, who doesn’t post much about her personal life, was clearly glowing with the reveal. Soap Hub sends out our congratulations to the happy couple!
