Georgie Jones, played by Lindze Letherman, was a beloved character on General Hospital until she met her fate at the hands of the Text Message Killer. It’s hard to believe she died in 2007, and that text messaging has been around that long! Now, a former writer for the show is setting the record straight on who wasn’t at the helm when Georgie was killed.
After news of former GH writer Bob Guza, Jr. joining The Gates as an executive producer was broken by Soap Hub, one fan of Georgie’s took to social media to lament the loss of the character. This poster erroneously recalled that Guza, a GH writer at the time (or was he?), was responsible for bumping off Maxie’s (Kristen Storms) sister.
“While I am not the biggest Guza fan (as he f*cking killed my Georgie Jones on #GH), I trust @MicheleValJean choices. I am just eager to see how #TheGates pan out,” posted Brandon Fluellen.
So, is Guza being responsible for Maxie not having a sister any longer fact or fiction? It turns out that it’s fiction!
Val Jean gently clarified to the passionate poster by responding, “Actually you’re wrong about that. We were on strike when Georgie was killed.” The Gates creator/executive producer/head writer is referring to a Writers Guild of America strike that lasted from November 5, 2007, until February 12, 2008.
Georgie died at the hands of a serial killer, who was eventually revealed to be the presumed dead Diego Alcazar, played by Ignacio Serricchio. Read his touching tribute to his late brother, Alejandro, here.) Georgie expired on December 17, 2007, the third victim of the Text Message killer!
However, Georgie’s name lives on as Maxie named her daughter, Georgie Spinelli (Lily Fisher), after her late sister. Occasionally, Letherman visits General Hospital as Georgie’s spirit when another character makes his or her transition to that great soap opera in the sky.
