After spending the last two and a half years on General Hospital, Evan Hofer recently revealed which co-star he considers his mentor.
On a recent episode of State of Mind, Hofer sat down with Maurice Benard to discuss mindset and ego, where Hofer gave his co-star a major compliment. “I’ll talk endlessly about how much you mean to me as a mentor and as a friend.”

Hofer noted one moment of their friendship that meant a lot to him. “Got to go with you to my very first Emmy’s, which was incredible and I was so glad I got to do that with you. It meant a lot to me.”
Hofer later commented on how art imitated life after the way Dex (Hofer) idolized Sonny (Benard) during his time as his righthand man. The pair went on to discuss one of their most prominent scenes: when Sonny beat Dex at Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) wedding.
“Speaking for Dex, I loved Sonny. I loved Sonny like a father; like the father that I always wished that I had had,” Hofer said. “Me never swinging back at you or anything was this, like, reversion to this, like, childlike state,” he continued. “Something like that can only happen where there was a lot of emotion.”
“I was excited about that because I finally got to work with you more since our breakup; since the Sonny/Dex breakup,” Hofer joked, while Benard admitted he didn’t agree with Sonny hurting such a nice guy like Dex.
During the podcast, Hofer also talked about the power of friendship during mental health struggles.
