The storyline that earned Alley Mills a Daytime Emmy nomination rocked Port Charles. Heather was serving time in prison for her crimes as the Hook killer. She killed several people in the name of revenge for the way her daughter, Esme (Avery Pohl), was treated.

However, during a visit to GH, it was discovered that Heather could have been suffering from cobalt poisoning, possibly leading her to make the crazy decisions she had. It was due to a hip replacement she had years ago. Heather had been terrorizing Port Charles for years, accumulating a substantial body count.

Upon having it removed and her blood levels tested, it was confirmed that cobalt poisoning was a problem for Heather. Throughout everything, Heather gained support from Laura (Genie Francis). They shared a grandson, and that lent sympathy. Esme was gone, and Laura and Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) were tasked with raising Ace.

In an effort to keep her daughter safe, Portia (Brook Kerr) changed Heather’s test results to ensure she wouldn’t be let out of prison. Unfortunately, this led to Drew (Cameron Mathison) blackmailing the doctor, forcing her to do things she would never have done.

Surprisingly, Heather won her case and was released from prison. However, the win brought Steven Webber (Scott Reeves) back to Port Charles. Curtis (Donnell Turner) paid him a hefty sum to convince his mother to move to Arizona with him, leaving the town behind them. Steven agreed, and the two left the canvas together in 2024.

Multiple Daytime Emmy Nominations

Alley Mills displayed a wide range of emotions during her portrayal of Heather. She tapped into the softer side of Heather, which hadn’t been addressed in quite some time. Seeing her bring a motherly side to the role was an interesting take, especially after years of unexplainable, crazy behavior. Mills offered a human dimension to the character as she began to feel remorse and emotions that were otherwise lacking in other storylines.

Mills isn’t new to daytime. Her first Daytime Emmy nomination came in 2023 for her portrayal of Heather, for which she won the award. In 2024, she was nominated in the category again but lost out to Dick Van Dyke for his portrayal of Timothy Robicheaux on Days of our Lives. This year is Mills’ third nomination as Heather Webber, and she could easily take home another win.
