Dancing With the Stars, the reality dance competition series that has featured numerous soap opera stars on it over the years is taking another twirl on the ballroom floor. ABC has renewed the popular show for another season. Traditionally, the series returns to the airwaves in mid-September.
Dancing With the Stars debuted in 2005 as a summer show that ran for six episodes. Kelly Monaco (Sam, General Hospital) and her pro dance partner Alec Mazo were the first mirror ball champions. The coveted trophy was recently renamed the Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy in honor of the late judge who passed away in 2023.
The show became a mega-hit, bringing in over 22 million weekly viewers at one point. Monaco was the first soap star the show tapped to be in its cast, but she wasn’t the last. Over the years, other faces have done the jive and Viennese Waltz as they competed for mirror ball glory.
Cameron Mathison (Drew, GH; ex-Ryan, All My Children), Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC), Chrishell Stause (ex-Jordan, Days of our Lives), Antonio Sabato Jr. (ex-Jagger, GH), Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jax, GH), Aiden Turner (ex-Aidan, AMC), and the late Anne Heche (ex-Vicky/Marley, Another World) have all competed on the show.
DWTS is hosted by previous champion Alfonso Ribeiro (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) and previous champion and pro dancer Julianne Hough. The show’s judges are Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough (a six-time mirror ball champion), and Bruno Tonioli.
Additionally, ABC has also renewed The Bachelor, Shark Tank, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, What Would You Do? and Celebrity Jeopardy!
