Cynthia Watros Talks Nina’s Diverse Daughters, Willow and Nelle

General Hospital could have made Nina, played by Cynthia Watros, learn that her long-lost daughter was either Willow or Nelle. However, there was another option. The show made the smart choice to play that Nina is actually the mother of both girls. Watros recently chatted with Soap Hub about the untapped potential in this familial dynamic.

Cynthia Watros: Winning and Twinning

Life isn’t all gloom for Nina on GH these days. Sure, she’s concerned about Sonny (Maurice Benard) finding out that the Crimson editor played a pivotal role in busting Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Carly (Laura Wright) with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). However, she has formed a stronger bond with her long-lost daughter, Willow (Katelynn MacMullen), who’s survived her health crisis. Yay!

General Hospital Mother’s Daze

“Like every mother,” Watros says to Soap Hub, “Nina wants to have a relationship with her daughter. Sometimes, it’s easy, and sometimes, it’s not easy. [Her relationship with Willow] has had some bumps in the road. I think Nina is trying to mend any sort of hurt that she’s caused in the past.

“Nina really just wants to have a strong relationship with Willow,” says Watros, noting that Willow inviting her mother into the small bubble of family and friends she interacts with while she continues to recover thrilled her to no end.

Cynthia Watros: Nina (Mostly) Happy at Last

“I think Nina could have just cried out of sheer happiness when that happened,” Watros says. “The hole that inside of her is filling up a little bit every time she gets to spend time with her daughter…her grandson [Wiley]. That’s so important. I knew from the get-go that the loss of children is a huge hurt. It will always affect her.”

For Whom the Nelle Tolls

Currently, Nelle (Chloe Lanier) is presumed dead from falling to her death (“death?”) after tussling with Carly. Lanier reprised Nelle in 2022 in a fantasy episode, so Watros was able to interact with her other TV daughter. Would she like to see Nelle be resurrected, as characters often are on soaps?

“I love Chloe,” Watros raves. “She’s so good. Cynthia would love to have Chloe [and Nelle] come back and have the dynamic between the good twin [Willow] and the bad twin [Nelle].

“Nina is both of those things,” Watros points out. “She has these amazing two children that are so different. But they both come from different parts of Nina. So, Chloe — if you’re reading this, you need to come back!”
